Today, june 10, 2026, marks exactly 100 years since Gaudí left us physically, but his legacy is more alive among us every day: His works testify to his vision inspired by nature, the imaginative and precise use of materials and techniques, and his understanding of the true meaning of architecture.
The Sagrada Familia today and as Gaudí conceived it in 1906
The central event of Gaudí’s centenary is the inauguration of the Tower of Jesus Christ at the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, with the papal blessing as the main event. This tower has great symbolic value. From the four arms of the cross, at a height of 172.5 meters, Gaudí envisioned powerful beams of light as a representation of the light of Christ illuminating the city. This is shown in the drawing published in 1906, which revealed the complete project for the first time.
