The AI x Gaudi competition is a global call from the Antonio Gaudí Foundation and Archademy, an international platform that trains architects and designers to master AI-assisted design, connecting cutting-edge technology with architectural practice.
Deeply inspired by Gaudí’s legacy, and coinciding with the celebration of the centenary of his death and the designation of Barcelona as the World Capital of Architecture in 2026, this competition does not seek to imitate Gaudí’s aesthetics, but to respond to a contemporary problem by applying his principles and constructive logic with the help of the most advanced Artificial Intelligence. It is a combination of a course for first-class training in artificial intelligence and a highly demanding international competition, The Gaudí Nexus, where it is demonstrated that Gaudí’s logical and technical principles are still, one hundred years later, fully valid to respond to the challenges of the future.
The competition will address a very current urban problem: the coexistence between mass tourism and the daily life of the residents of Barcelona and many cities. The proposal consists of designing a Proximity Market and Digital Culture Centre, as well as the reconfiguration of the urban environment surrounding the Plaza de la Sagrada Familia in Barcelona. The objective is to return this space to the inhabitants of the city, integrating the international visitor from respect, pedagogy and cultural exchange, preventing the place from becoming a theme park.
In addition, an independent prize will be awarded to the best design of furniture or architectural object inspired in Gaudí’s procedures. To qualify for this special prize, a proposal may be submitted that will be completely optional.
For the winners, 10,000 U$D in prizes have been established.
During the competition there will be live webinars with experts in Gaudí and biomimicry that will help to unravel the constructive logic and biomimetic principles that underpin all of Gaudí’s work.To guide the form al and spatial explorations with Gaudí’s constructive and structural logic, participants will have an exclusive AI model, developed with the specific documentary material, and training to learn how to master this node-based parametric environment.
